Ida B Wells-Barnett and the Legacy of Post-Reconstruction Journalism

Ida B Wells-Barnett and the Legacy of Post-Reconstruction Journalism In-Person / Online

Ida Wells was born into the institution of Slavery before being emancipated by the American Civil War. Her and her families experiences lit in her a flame to pursue a righteous and total end to the evils of the post reconstruction south. The ferocity with which she pursued equality and justice under the law for herself and other freed people made her into one of the most well known journalists of her time. Her writings shined a light on the horrors of lynching and mob violence in the south and she spoke with a frankness that you would be hard pressed to find in journalism today. Learn about what her brave example can teach us about truth in media today.
